About

Frank Witte has been an active amateur astronomer from 1980 through to 1988. In 1984 he was the first to complete a sufficiently dense series of telescopic observations of the Geminid meteor shower to allow the calculation of a telescopic activity profile, which was published by Jenniskens & Witte.

He was a student in theoretical Astrophysics at Utrecht University from 1987-1993. He started his research in 1991 with an MSc thesis on the "Electro-Weak phasetransition in the early Universe" supervised by Michael Schmidt (Heidelberg) & Bram Achterberg (Utrecht), He did his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1995 at the University of Heidelberg on the non-equilibrium quantum field theory of phase-transitions in high-energy physics supervised by Prof. Joerg Huefner & Hans-Christian Pauli (MPI). He wrote papers on non-equilirbium quantum field theory, or kinetic field theory, with Sandy Klevanksy, and on the classical and non-relativistic limits of relativistic pseudo-classical statistical mechanics.
From 1996 till 2010 he was a staff member of the department of Physics & Astronomy of Utrecht University, as an assistant professor / university lecturer in theoretical physics from 1998, also at University College Utrecht, and as a associate professor / senior lecturer since 2007. From 2005 till 2010 he was Fellow for Physics & Mathematics at University College Utrecht. His research work focussed on applications of geometric algebra in relativistic physics, the quantum properties of systems with strong gravitational interactions and (after 2001) the newly emerging field of quantum game theory.
Frank spent two terms in 2001 as a visiting fellow to St Johns College in Cambridge and one term in 2009 as an academic visitor to the QOLS group at Imperial College London.
Since August 2010 Frank is at the department of Economics of University College London.

Frank Witte is a regular contributor to "The Naked Scientists".
