Thesis Title: Cornish Mining Landscapes: Perceptions and Experiences of Industrial Archaeology within a Post-Industrial Society
Dr Andrew Gardner
About
I'm a PhD research student at the Institute of Archaeology with a background in public archaeology and education (I was a lecturer in archaeology within Further and Adult Education between 2000 and 2005).
I'm interested in public archaeology, cultural heritage and archaeologies of the recent past. For my current research I'm examining mining landscapes in Cornwall in terms of the different social, political and economic values that they embody as well as contestation of their boundaries, management and usage. Data is being collected through a mixture of ethnographic and phenomenological research methods including visual research methods such as the creation of memory maps and the use of photographs on Flickr (as surrogate landscapes) to invite comment.
