About

Before joining UCL Geography, I taught at the neighbouring School of Slavonic and East European Studies, where in November 2011 I was awarded my PhD. Previously, I completed an MA in Politics, Security & Integration at UCL (with distinction) and a BA in European Studies at Maastricht University (UM). Between 2007 and 2010 I was the recipient of the SSEES Foundation Fellowship.

Engaging debates in Political Geography, International Relations and (East) European Studies, my thesis investigates the role of temporality in geopolitical narratives, particularly in the context of the relationship between the European Union and the post-Soviet space. I zoom in on issues such as German-Russian energy security, the European Union’s discourse on Russian territory and the geopolitics of Belarus.

My next research project will try and put a spin on the recent (re-)turn to materiality in critical PG and IR by investigating the relationship between architecture and geopolitics in Germany. What has happened to that intriguing symbiosis between architectural and geopolitical timespace that could be found in National Socialism? Did it vanish alongside the tabooing of geopolitics and the disappearance of fascist architectural projects post-1945 - or did it merely transform into new spatiotemporal arrangements?
