Faculty Member, French
Lecturer in French & Comparative Literature
UCL
About
I studied French and Spanish & Latin American Studies at UCL as an undergraduate and then completed an MA in European Languages & Cultures at the University of Manchester. Following PhD research on Hervé Guibert and discourses of AIDS at UCL, I worked as Lecturer in French at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, from 1997-1999. Since 1999 I have been Lecturer in French & Comparative Literature at UCL. I am also the Programme Tutor/Director of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities undergraduate ECS (European Cultural Studies) Programme.
My main research interests are on socio-cultural discourses of AIDS in France, and in a cross-cultural/comparative context. I am also interested in the links between this broad area and theories and practices of gay male subjectivity. I am currently working on Guibert's AIDS writings; contemporary French gay cinema, especially the films of Gäel Morel, and; issues within queer theory relating to de/sexualization and ir/responsibility.
