About

My PhD thesis focuses on the conceptions of political authority and order in the political thought of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon circa 1517-1552. The thesis is written from the point of view of intellectual history and analyses the writings of the Wittenberg reformers in their political and intellectual contexts. The thesis focuses especially on the interplay between non- or extra-theological political theories and concepts and the theological conceptions of Obrigkeit and Ordnung of Romans 13, or put differently: the interplay between the various political languages used by the reformers.
